APPLICATION: The repair performed with this product was a hydraulic piston rebuild. The repair was to a fairly new piston, it had been improperly assembled at the factory, causing a complete failure.


The customer was in the position of being able to repair this piston in three or four days, and offer a guarantee of performance as opposed to waiting up to six months for a replacement to be built and sent. The actual job only took two and one half days to complete from the commencement of work.

The repair involved spraying the seal end of a telescoping hydraulic ram (2 pieces), built up to approximately 3/16" thick over a diameter of 14" on the one and 16" on the other and across approximately 10".

The repair worked magnificently! All machining and spraying were done at the same facility and the piston has been in service at this time for three months.

SAVINGS: The actual bill to the end user of this particular part was
between $6,500 and $8,000. The cost of replacement without regard to lost production time was near $50,000. I believe that the original vendor of the piston was held liable for the actual cost of the work, including lost production.

My customer uses the same method on many other pistons of varying size, this repair is just particularly dramatic in it's size and scope.

WHAT DID THEY DO BEFORE OUR REPAIR?
Prior to introduction to Cryospray, this customer had used a brazing process to do these types of repair at tremendous cost in labour.
